Claim to the CICA for rape victim

If you are the victim of rape then you can apply for an award of compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). The CICA is a government funded organisation that makes payments to the victims of violent crime. The current award for the victim of rape is £11,000 with additional payments for any further injuries. In addition and in certain circumstances you can claim for lost income and other, limited, financial losses.

Making a claim to the CICA, especially for claims involving rape, can be a long and complicated process with numerous forms and questionnaires to complete. However, Criminal Injury Claims Advice is here to help and support you every step of the way.

Criminal Injury Claims Advice is part of Cohen Cramer Solicitors so you know that you are getting expert, professional advice. Our trained, experienced and knowledgeable advisers will make sure that you receive what you are entitled to.

From advising you when you can claim and what you can claim for, through to completing all the lengthy required paperwork, schedules of loss and advising you on any award offers, we are here for you every step of the way.

Rape is a very traumatic experience that can impact on all aspects of your life; we know and understand this and so offer an experienced, professional and confidential service to make sure that you receive the award that you deserve.

To qualify for an award you must:

  • have been attacked in Great Britain
  • make your application usually within two years of the attack (there is some flexibility in historic sexual abuse/rape claims)
  • report the matter to the police as soon as possible (within 48-72 hours at most)
  • co-operate fully with the police and any court process.

It doesn’t matter if there has not been an arrest or conviction; you simply need to show that, on the balance of probabilities, you have been sexually assaulted or raped.

It doesn’t matter if you werecohabiting or attacked by a partner or boyfriend; no-one has the right to assault you, and you can claim even if you were living together at the time of the attack.

Once you call us we will:

  • discuss your case and advise you on the chances of bringing a successful claim
  • give you an estimate of the award you can expect to receive
  • complete and submit the required application form
  • monitor the progress of your claim and provide you with regular updates
  • complete and submit financial loss and care questionnaires where relevant
  • advise on any award and bring the matter to a conclusion or
  • seek to have the matter reviewed if the decision is not one that should be accepted

All information is received and all advice is given in complete confidence.
